Nokia N82

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

The Nokia N82 seems like the next flagship of the Nokia N-series of multimedia-oriented smartphones. Although it looks pretty much the same as Nokia N95 specs-wise, it outmatches the current heavyweight champion with a xenon flash and automatic screen rotation. While automatic screen rotation for the Nokia N95 seems to be just around the corner, there’s nothing that can beat the xenon flash on those night party shoots. The Nokia N95 however has recently received some 8 gigs worth of stash for your multimedia needs plus a gorgeous 2.8-inch display. So it is a fight that’s somewhat uneven, the two cannot be compared directly. Maybe the form factor will be decisive and user preference will take it from there. nyways, the Nokia N82 is a highly sought after device, and we are more than happy to have finally laid our greasy hands on it.

We are working on a fully-fledged review that should be ready some time next week. We wanted to share with you our first Nokia N82 images plus several other goodies.

First off, we present you the Nokia N82 photos. We gotta admit the N82 is not the prettiest of handsets but it looks alright - especially having in mind it’s loaded with features. You can’t see silvery Nokia phones often, but the Nokia N82 is one of them. Some of us would have preferred black and hope there’s a black version coming in the future (you didn’t hear us say 8GB.

SCH-B550, the new Samsung blast

Friday, June 6th, 2008

This sunrise, while look at the Samsung December catalog, I found the SCH-B550. This phone right missing made me think about the Sky IM-U140, but different it, the SCH-B550 is primarily designed for video games (3D graphics, Joypad, TV output, GXG hold up in Korea…). The SCH-B550 has many other features, such as the DMB mobile TV, an MP3 player, a 2Mpix camera, Bluetooth… If you’re involved in it, this phone is only on hand in Korea.

But in recent few weeks Samsung’s activities and successive announcements of new products left me with no doubt about Samsung’s route. Samsung is difficult to replace Digicam, PSP and TV with mobile phone. Well to bad for Sony, as I am sure Sony wouldn’t be too happy about Samsung’s latest release. Though sadly this let go is another region targeted release, i.e. will be only available for Korean (South Korea off course) customers.

We are talking about a mobile phone with - Bluetooth, an mp3 player and a 2-megapixel digital camera. Well these days every phone has it, but how about DMB digital TV, 3D graphics and Joypad for mobile gaming and a TV output for those times that you’re near a big screen? Now that is the kick ass new feature! Yes you will get all this in SCH-B550, Samsung’s new Korean holiday gift.

The keypad seems a bit oddly laid-out (Maybe because it’s the Korean keypad), similar to the Calculator-alike P310 in Samsung’s own range, but given the bells and whistles I think you’ll be far more likely to be playing games or watching TV than actually bothering to make calls. No indication of battery life, however, which could be a killer running that fancy 3D graphics engine, nor price. Couldn’t find anything on Samsung’s English official release too, the Korea site though have an article but way beyond my translator capabilities.First in Italy Mobile TV now in Korea DMB digital TV, hmm! Samsung really got into mobile TV fascination.

Giorgio Armani and Samsung Electronics unveiled the new Giorgio Armani-Samsung luxury mobile. Giorgio Armani presented the new mobile phone at a press briefing in his Armani/Teatro in Milan before his Spring Summer 2008 Women’s fashion show. The Giorgio Armani-Samsung Mobile will meet the needs of those who aspire to own a technologically advanced and beautifully designed telephone with which to communicate and complete their lifestyle.

Through a new strategic alliance, starting with the Giorgio Armani-Samsung luxury mobile phone, the two companies plan to launch an innovative range of portable and home consumer electronics products as part of the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and Armani/Casa lifestyles, founded on the combination of Giorgio Armani’s iconic design aesthetic and Samsung’s cutting edge technology.

“Today fashion has expanded to encompass our way of life, not just how we dress, but how we design our home, the hotels we stay in, the car we drive and the technology we buy. In fact, we make as much of a personal statement with the mobile phones that we carry or the televisions we have in our living rooms as we do with the shoes and bags we wear or the furnishings we chose to place in our homes. These are all lifestyle decisions, where design and performance are the criteria. Samsung has successfully anticipated the growing role for consumer electronics in our lives, while recognising the importance of self-expression in the development of its products.”

Geesung Choi, President of Samsung Electronics said: “Today’s mobile phone manufacturers no longer just sell mobile phones, but sell more than the product itself – a slice of life and culture. We truly believe that our approach with Giorgio Armani is one step closer to our customers to enrich their lives with sophisticated style and cutting-edge technology.”

The Giorgio Armani-Samsung Mobile

For the first time Giorgio Armani’s signature elegance and simplicity is applied to mobile phone design. A large 2.6-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen maximizes the user’s visual experience and optimizes the full touch-screen user interface (UI). Along with the outer appearance of the phone, the graphical user interface (GUI) and audio user interface (AUI) also reflect Giorgio Armani’s modern simplicity. By adapting a haptical UI, users can feel an immediate mild vibration when they touch icons on the display. Being the size of a credit card and a mere 9.9 mm in thickness, the Giorgio Armani-Samsung Phone fits sensuously into a user’s palm.

Despite its compactness, the phone is loaded with the latest powerful multi-media features. It is equipped with a 3-megapixel camera, a music player supporting various types of music formats and a full internet browser.
